Meet Our Governors

zoe drury - Chair of Governors

Hello, my name is Zoe.

After two years as a community governor here at New Road, I became Chair of Governors in Sept 2024. I live here in Whittlesey where moved 6 years ago.

I am retired from the NHS, where I worked for over 35 years as a hospital nurse, macmillan nurse, health visitor and later in senior leadership in an NHS Trust, specialising in safeguarding. For many years I was a single working mother of two daughters, one of whom had significant special educational needs and disability, so I have some experience of the challenges many parents who have SEND needs face. Since retirement, I enjoy being a grandmother, and Caravanning! I work in a number of voluntary roles within a local church and local community, involving activities for children, families and older adults. I would like to be a visible governor.  I feel  passionate about being part of a team of governors who want to ensure the very best outcomes for our school through good governance.

If you'd like to know more about what we do, I am always very happy to talk. I often visit the school and will be attending with other governors at events where parents are. Please look out for me and say hello.

Joanne Sayer - Community Governor

Our first daughter started at New Road School in 2007, and we have had a care and interest in the school since that time. Our two younger children were also at the school from Reception to Year 6

As a full time mum who volunteers in school and at our church, I wanted to use my time constructively for the good of the school, it's pupils and staff.  I have been a governor since Autumn 2013.

Mark Graham - Community Governor

Hello, my name is Mark,

I spent a few decades in the military and after retiring from full time service, to live in Whittlesey, I began my second career teaching in the adult education sector, mostly centred around management, health and safety and mental health.

My wife has worked in our school since 2015, and we now have two of our grandchildren in the school.

I became a community governor at the end of 2024 because I wanted to help support our school, the dedicated staff and most importantly, the learning and growth of our young people. My experiences both in my previous career and my current will hopefully help to support the team.

Louis DePlancke - vice chair / Community Governor

Having been connected with the school, through work, since it opened and through my wife working there, I took on the role of a governor in late 2023 and am now vice chair.   Skills learnt in my previous employment are proving useful in the role and I am pleased to be part of the ongoing school improvement with a team of committed staff and senior leaders.

Karen Maxwell - Community Governor

I worked as a Civil Servant for 20 years in Peterborough before retiring, having previously worked in nursing. I have lived in Whittlesey for approximately 14 years

I have 3 grandchildren in other areas of the country who have SEND issues and want to ensure children’s needs are being met locally.

During my time in the civil service, I had several volunteer roles these included chair of the charity committee, mental health first aider and contact officer which involved assisting colleagues with work issues. I have a strong passion for well being issues and want to ensure that both staff and pupils needs are being met.

I became a community governor in 2024 as I now have time to devote to local issues and feel I can bring assorted skills to the role and ensure all have equal opportunities and achieve the best results possible.

Jonny Wicks - Parent Governor

Having spent 12 years as a police officer in Cambridgeshire, and volunteering in a local church for as long as I can remember, I’ve always had a desire to serve the community in which I live. My three boys now attend New Road Primary, and I’ve been really impressed with the way the school provides a strong foundation for young people to learn and grow. I became a governor in late 2024 because I want to help support the school continue providing the best start in life for the children of Whittlesey.

From my experience in the police and latterly working in fundraising for a local charity, as a governor I hope to bring valuable insights in leadership, safeguarding and people management.
