Headteacher Weekly Newsletter

Mr Litten will be writing a weekly newsletter,  with the  aim to share with you all that is good about our school and its children.

 Dear Parents, Carers and Pupils,

We can’t believe it’s almost half term –time has flown! I know I keep saying this, but we really have had a fantastic half term with your children. We are really looking forward to sharing their hard work and progress during the parents’ evenings in November.

Fire Fighter Visit

Children in Reception and Years 1 and 2 enjoyed a visit from local fire fighter Jamie. Jamie freely gives his time to talk to children about the Fire and Rescue Service, encouraging children to be safe and to respect the service.

As you can see the children loved his visit. Jamie shared the top three skills for fire and rescue: teamwork, communication, and the ability to follow instructions.

A big thank you to Jamie!

Conker Champion

Congratulation to one of our Year 5 pupils who came runner up in the World Conker Championships last week. The annual event is held in Northamptonshire and draws people from all over the world. His brother also entered but didn’t quite make it to the final.

By coincidence Nicoda and his brother were both chosen as hand writer of the week by their teachers. Who knows, may be playing conkers is good for handwriting too.

We are very proud of both boys for their success in the championship and for keeping the tradition alive.

Jason Fenn is Coming to New Road

What a treat, not only do we have Spanish Magician Ferran Rizo visiting our school in November, but we also have a local magician visiting too.

Friends of New Road School have very kindly agreed to fund two magic shows for the children on the 31st of January. A midwinter treat to lift everyone’s spirits.

In addition to our Pantomime on the 4th of December, there’s lots for our children to enjoy - thank you Friends of New Road School: your positivity helps everyone!

Trackit Lights

Last year teachers from the school took part in a Department for Education project on behaviour systems in school. We were really impressed by the Trackit Light system that our partner school in Luton used to monitor behaviour.

The system helps teachers to record and share with parents both good behaviour and behaviour that isn’t welcome in our school.

I was really pleased to award Ruby the 1st Trackit certificate in assembly on Friday. A huge thank you to all the teachers, especially Mrs Bains for getting the system up and running!

We’ll do our best to support every child to behave really well and celebrate great behaviour too!

The term dates and a list of future dates are below.  Thank you for reading the newsletter. The next one will be on the 4th of November.

Kindest regards,

Mr Rob Litten
