Our final instructions for leaving Stibbington.  Shopping done, cases to put on the bus and then the final activity is to lower the flag.

Task 3 to use guttering to move a ball from the start to be safely caught in the bucket.  Once all tasks have been completed we are allowed some lunch!

Our final activities are linked to team building.  Task 1 was to rescue the polar bear and not fall into the ocean!

More About Our Eco Roles

The waste gang recycle the kitchen and general waste.  The garden gang have planted some broad beans and filled the bird feeders.  The power rangers have taken weather readings and the temperature in 3 places in the centre over the 3 days we have been here.

Barn Owls Diet

The barn owl eats small mammals, mice, voles and shrews.  We used a chart to identify all the different bones.

Very carefully, using two tweezers we looked for bones in the owl pellets.  We had to remove any fur.

  • OW My favourite memory is finding the treasure

  • AB My favourite memory is using the compass

  • AW My favourite memory was going to the nature reserve with Richard and building a hedgehog house

  • JO I liked making my rabbit mask

  • MB I liked dissecting the bones from the owl pellet

  • JB I liked dissecting the owl pellet, making a mask and giggling in my room with Sophie

  • SE My favourite part was building the hedgehog house and looking at the owl pellet

  • SC I liked it when we were building the hedgehog houses

  • KW I liked building the hedgehog houses

  • KDJ I liked it when we were telling each other jokes in our bedroom and going to the woods and seeing the badger set.

  • NA I liked it when we were reading the treasure map

  • FS I liked it when we made the masks and I made a badger one

  • SL I liked hiding the apple cores in the forest for the woodland mice to find.

  • ED I liked making the hedgehog house and looking at the owl pellets.

  • RLC My favourite memory was making the mask and finding bones in the owl pellet

  • OE I liked making my mask and building the hedgehog house

  • Mrs D I enjoyed seeing the badger sett as I’d never seen one before and being with the children and getting to know the children better. The children all behaved very well.

  • Mrs G I have many memories but my favourite is dissecting the owl pellet as I had not done this before.

  • Mrs B I have really enjoyed this residential and getting to know to all the children. I enjoyed seeing the paw prints outside the badger sett and spending time outdoors.

Wildlife

We have been listening for wildlife.  We heard woodpeckers, blue tits and crows.  Later on we saw a very large badger sett and some badger paw prints.

Here are our memories and favourite bits of our first day at Stibbington on Wednesday 24th Jan:

  • KDJ enjoyed the long walk and finding the clues. 

  • OE collecting nature items for the table decorations

  • NA collecting the weather readings and taking the temperatures around the building

  • RLC enjoyed finding the pictures on the cards in the grounds of Stibbington

  • KW enjoyed the walk around the nature reserve

  • ED is having a good time and enjoying everything

  • AB enjoyed the nature reserve and using the compass to find the direction

  • FS liked the nature reserve and finding the clues

  • JB liked holding Mrs Gaskin’s hand on the treasure hunt walk

  • SL enjoyed the long walk and I learned that exercise is important

  • SE liked wiping the tables after tea.

  • OW liked finding the pirates treasure in the wooden chest

  • JO enjoyed map reading and looking for the clues

  • MB enjoyed everything in particular carrying the treasure chest back to the centre.

  • AW enjoyed spending time outside with my friends SC enjoyed using the compass when map reading

  • Mrs G enjoyed spending time with the well behaved children

  • MRS D enjoyed spending time with the children outside of the classroom.

  • Mrs B enjoyed the walk around the nature reserve and was impressed with the children’s map reading skills and team work.

We all enjoyed sandwiches, cakes and fruit for lunch.  We are now getting ready for our afternoon in the nature reserve.  We are all very excited, our bags are unpacked and all our beds are made and ready.
